A patient regains his ability to walk after complex spinal surgery.
A 20-year-old young man suffering from severe pain and inability to move arrived at the emergency department of Saudi German Hospital Hail branch, where the medical team immediately performed the necessary procedures.
The examination was conducted by Dr. Mohammed Khalid, PhD in Neurosurgery. After performing the necessary imaging, a complex malignant tumor was found in the eleventh thoracic vertebra, causing a vertebral fracture, with the tumor extending to the surrounding ribs.
The decision for surgical intervention was the most difficult but the best option for a complete recovery. Despite the complexity of the surgery, with the skill and expertise of Dr. Mohammed Khalid and the medical team at Saudi German Hospital Hail branch, the surgery was successfully completed.
The anterior and posterior parts of the vertebra were completely removed along with parts of the affected ribs, with placement of a replacement support for the removed vertebra, in addition to posterior fixation of the remaining vertebrae using a device to monitor and measure neurological functions during surgery.
Within just one month, the patient regained his ability to walk, got rid of the severe pain he was suffering from, and began to live his life normally.
